The Ruger PC Carbine is one of those guns that makes a ridiculous amount of practical sense.

It's chambered in 9mm, feeds from detachable magazines, has rifle ergonomics, barely kicks, and breaks down into two major assemblies without requiring a workbench, three punches, and an engineering degree.

This example is used and in good condition and already has a few accessories installed, including a variable-power scope, folding bipod, aftermarket muzzle brake, and two magazines as pictured.

And yes, the first photo showing the gun split in half is intentional.

It's not broken.

That's the point.

The Ruger PC Carbine uses a quick takedown system that allows the barrel/forend assembly to separate from the receiver and stock assembly. That makes it considerably easier to transport, store, or pack into a smaller case.

For anybody who likes the concept of a compact pistol-caliber carbine but doesn't necessarily want an AR-style platform, Ruger did a pretty good job with these.

I like the PC Carbine because it doesn't really pretend to be anything it isn't.

It's a 9mm semi-auto rifle that's inexpensive to shoot, easy to handle, and generally just fun.

You can spend an afternoon ringing steel without wondering whether you should've refinanced your house before buying ammunition.

This particular rifle has already been set up for somebody who wanted a little more capability out of it. You've got a scope for magnification, a folding bipod for supported shooting, and an aftermarket muzzle brake up front.

Is a muzzle brake strictly necessary on a 9mm carbine?

Absolutely not.

Does that mean we're taking it off?

Also absolutely not.

Sometimes unnecessary accessories are part of the American experience.

The takedown feature is probably my favorite part of the entire platform. Twist it apart and suddenly a full-length rifle becomes considerably easier to transport.

Basically, Ruger built a rifle that can disappear into a compact case without involving hinges, tax stamps, or explaining anything uncomfortable to an ATF agent.

That's a win.
