Here we have a used Taurus Spectrum chambered in .380 ACP.

The Spectrum came from that period when handgun manufacturers collectively decided pocket pistols needed to stop looking like miniature roofing tools.

So Taurus gave this thing rounded edges, soft-touch grip panels, a snag-resistant profile, and enough color combinations over the years that some of them looked more like consumer electronics than firearms.

This one is used.

It's compact.

It's lightweight.

And despite the name, it does not require a subscription to Charter Communications.

The Spectrum is basically Taurus answering a very simple question:

“How small can we make a .380 before somebody actually forgets they're carrying it?”

Pretty damn small.

This isn't a duty pistol.

It's not a competition gun.

Nobody is attaching a bipod to it.

Hopefully.

It's a little .380 designed around concealment, simplicity, and being easy to carry without feeling like you stuffed a brick into your pocket.

The controls are basic, the sights are appropriately simple for the platform, and the rounded slide and frame help keep the whole thing from snagging on everything around it.

And because it's a lightweight .380, physics still gets a vote.

Little pistol does not automatically mean little personality when you pull the trigger.

That's part of the experience.

The other thing about the Spectrum is that it occupies that wonderfully dangerous pricing category where somebody walks into the shop saying:

“I'm absolutely not buying another gun today.”

Then they pick it up.

Then they see the price.

Then suddenly we're doing paperwork.
